Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)

Methyl ethyl ketone is used in large quantities as a solvent, especially in polyvinyl
chloride based coatings and films. It is used in coatings for wooden furniture
refinishes, auto refinishes, and magnetic tape, and as an extraction solvent in
lubricating oil dewaxing. It is a component of adhesives and printing inks. In
smaller amounts MEK is used as a raw material for other chemicals, such as MEK
peroxide.
